The National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (in Hungarian: Országos Gyógyszerészeti és Élelmezés-egészségügyi Intézet, OGYÉI) is responsible for pharmaceuticals and certain public health administration tasks in Hungary.
OGYÉI is the legal successor of the former National Institute for Quality- and Organizational Development in Healthcare and Medicines (Gyógyszerészeti és Egészségügyi Minőség- és Szervezetfejlesztési Intézet, GYEMSZI)) General Directorate of the Institute of Pharmacy, Directorate of Equipment Assessment and Hospital Technology, Technology Assessment Department with responsibilities also taken from other the former governmental bodies such as the National Institute for Food and Nutrition Science (OÉTI).

OGYÉI’s purpose and scope of activities
OGYÉI is the public authority responsible for the supervision of medicinal products, health-related genetic engineering and pharmaceutical market. OGYÉI is responsible for a wide range of regulatory and scientific research, surveillance, information and expert tasks in the fields of food and nutrition health as well as cosmetic products. Nowadays, procedures for domestic authorization of COVID-19 vaccines, which are currently in the spotlight, are also carried out by the experts of the OGYÉI.
The institute is responsible for carrying out regulatory tasks related to the supply of medicinal products and for monitoring the operation of pharmacies and the supply of medicinal products to the general public. Its staff carry out expert assessments on medical devices and medical and technological investments by healthcare providers.
How can OGYÉI help you?
Among other things, you can report adverse reactions to medicines you have experienced, unexpected malfunctions of medical devices and serious and undesirable effects caused by cosmetics to OGYÉI.
OGYÉI also provides information on special cases of access to certain medicines, public information on dietary supplements, nutritional prevention programs, etc.
